Petition the VA Secretary to Increase Mental Health Staffing

According to a report prepared for the United States House of Representatives Committee on Veterans' Affairs, thirty percent of surveyed Vet Centers said that they need more staff.

- 100% of the surveyed Vet Centers have seen a significant increase in outreach and services for OIF/OEF veterans

- 20% of the surveyed Vet Centers has taken or will take actions to manage this increase, including 'limiting services and establishing wait lists'

- The same report concluded that 'the Administration's failure to adequately increase staffing and other resources for Vet Centers has put their capacity to meet the needs of veterans and their families at risk.'

6492 June 17, 2009 Anonymous , I have a boyfriend that is an OIF/OEF veteran twice over. He suffers from PTSD and making his appointments is absolutely terrible. The people in the office are unwilling to help and its pulling teeth to get an appoitment that is not 4 months away. It appalls me that our veterans get treated this way when they gave so much for us to be free.

We must support their health care and give each one, the care and assistance they need in order to get back into a regular day to day routine. They have put all they have on the line, in order to protect our nation and the lives of countless strangers in foreign lands.DO NOT TURN YOUR BACK ON THEM.

6470 November 13, 2008 Charlcie Woodruff Riesel, TX My husband is retired, did 3 tours first time around and was in Somalia, We owe our lives to these people, At least we can provide for their healthcare. As a pyschiatric nurse active in the state nurses association and within 100 mile of Ft. Hood. I will fight for legislation for our soldiers mental health care and the needs of their family. No single person is ever effected by war- no single person has sacrificied. The soldiers and their families have sacrificied and we owe them our ongoing on unwavering support.
